(책) 가난한 도시 생활자의 서울산책

보지 못하고, 느끼지 못하고, 깨닫지 못했음을 반성하면서 책을 읽었다.

내가 살고 있는 아파트가 생기기전에 살았던 사람들의 이야기, 그들이 얼마나 힘들었고, 핍박을 받았고, 억울하고 화가 났을지가 그려진다.

개발이라는 이름으로, 성장이라는 단어 아래, 인권은 무시되고, 후퇴하는 것을 보지 못하는 것이 현실이다. 무관심이고 내 일이 아닐 수 있다.

그렇기에 간접적으로라도 알아야하고, 공감할 수 있어야 한다.

'이 도시는 그들의 무덤 위에 세워진 셈이다'.
이 책에 나와있는 한 문장이고, 앞의 문장을 배제하고 썼을 때 다른 느낌일 수 있지만, 내가 밟고 있는 도시의  곳곳에 누군가의 희생과 아픔이 있었다는 것, 지금도 재개발 광풍 속에서 삶을 걱정하는 사람들이 수없이 많다는 것을 기억해야겠다.

"The Seoul Walk of a Poor Urban Dweller" by Kim Yoon-young, Poverty and Social Solidarity

I read the book reflecting on what I haven't seen, felt, or realized. It depicts the stories of people who lived before the construction of the apartment complex I currently reside in, how difficult their lives were, the persecution they faced, and how unjust and angry they must have been.
Under the names of development and growth, human rights are ignored and pushed back, and it is the reality that we fail to see. It may be indifference and not our own concern. That's why we need to know, even indirectly, and be able to empathize.

"This city stands upon their graves" is a sentence from this book, and although it may give a different feeling when taken out of context, I must remember that there have been sacrifices and pain of someone in every corner of the city I tread upon, and even now, there are countless people worrying about their lives amidst the redevelopment frenzy.
