내가 경험한 윤리강령 이야기

사회복지사윤리강령에 대해서 관심을 가지게 되었던 것은, 실습생 교육을 위해서 스터디를 하고, 자료를 만들고, 강의를 하면서였던 거 같다.

그리고 윤리적 딜레마를 겪는 상황에서 윤리적원칙들을 찾게 되었고, 조금은 애매한 문장들을 이해하고 수용하기 위해서 NASW 윤리강령도 살펴보고, 스스로 고민하고 답을 찾기위한 노력을 했던 거 같다.

어떻게 보면, 윤리강령은 나에게 사회복지실천의 지침서같은 역할을 해주었다. 강점관점을 접하고, 자연주의 복지실천을 알게되고, 여러 사회복지이론들을 새롭게 배우면서, 윤리강령을 살펴보는 재미도 있었다. 윤리강령의 지침들 속에서 강점관점을 발견하고, 당사자성이나 관계의 중요함들을 깨닫게 된다.

어쩌면, 내가 윤리적으로 완벽하지 않기에 윤리강령을 더 찾았었다고 해도 과언이 아닐거 같다. 조금이나마 더 사회복지사다워지고 싶었던 마음이 있었다고나할까? 그리고 윤리강령을 더 접할 수 있는 상황들이 있었다고나 할까? 어쨌든 지금 생각해보면 감사한 일이라고 여겨진다.

윤리강령은 근본적인 질문을 가지게 했다. 인권이 무엇인지, 인본주의, 사회적 정의가 무엇인지를 찾게했고, 조금씩 사회복지사업의 범위를 벗어나서 사회정책에 관심을 가지게 했고, 사회복지사의 사회운동에도 나아가게했다.

사회복지사는 무엇을 해야하는가?라는 질문을 모든 사회복지사들이 종종 하고 있을 것이다. 그럴때 윤리강령 전문을 꼭꼭 씹어 읽어보길 권한다. 그리고 질문을 던지고, 답을 찾기위해서 노력하길 바란다. 아마도 답은 우리의 머리 속에, 마음에 있음을 깨닫게 될 것이다. 그것을 조금씩 끄집어 내기를 바란다.

아울러 사회복지사 선서를 읽어보길 바란다.
내가 왜 사회복지사인지? 어떤 사회복지사가 되고 싶은지, 사회복지사로서의 긍지가 무엇인지를 성찰해보자.

The story of the Code of Ethics for Social Workers that I have experienced.

I think I became interested in the Code of Ethics for Social Workers while preparing for internships, conducting studies, creating materials, and giving lectures. In situations where I encountered ethical dilemmas, I searched for ethical principles and also looked into the NASW Code of Ethics to understand and incorporate somewhat ambiguous statements. I made efforts to reflect on myself and find answers.
In a way, the Code of Ethics served as a guideline for my practice in social work. It introduced me to strengths perspective, made me aware of naturalistic welfare practices, and allowed me to learn various social work theories. It was also interesting to explore the Code of Ethics while discovering strengths perspective and realizing the importance of client empowerment and relationships within its guidelines.

Perhaps it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that I sought out the Code of Ethics even more because I wasn't ethically perfect. Maybe I had a desire to become more social work-oriented, even if just a little bit. And perhaps there were situations where I had the opportunity to engage with the Code of Ethics more. Regardless, looking back now, I consider it a grateful experience. The Code of Ethics prompted fundamental questions. It led me to explore what human rights are, what humanism is, and what social justice means. It gradually sparked my interest in social policies beyond the scope of social work practice and propelled me towards social advocacy as a social worker.

The question of what social workers should do is one that all social workers often ponder. At those times, I strongly recommend thoroughly reading the Code of Ethics. And I hope you ask questions and make efforts to find answers. Perhaps you will realize that the answers lie within our minds and hearts. I encourage you to gradually extract them. Additionally, I suggest reading the social work oath.
Let's reflect on why we chose to become social workers, what kind of social worker we aspire to be, and contemplate the pride of being a social worker.
