2022 체인지온 컨퍼런스 '각성'

지난 주 금요일의 체인지온에서 느낀 생각을 정리해봅니다.

1. '거대 위기의 시대, 대한민국의 대 전환-우리는 어디에 서있고, 어디로 가야 하는가' - 김누리 교수(중앙대)

사회발전의 이면을 볼 수 있어야 한다. K 자가 붙은 '자랑스러운' 이면에 전 세계에서 가장 불평등으로 인한 사회붕괴의 위기와 인구 소멸의 단계로 가고 있는 우리나라의 모습에 대해서 질문을 던져주었다.

2. '다 틀린 미래에 왜 매달리는가?' -곽재식 교수(숭실 사이버대)

미래, 기술에 대한 막연한 기대와 불안감이 공존하는 시대에 살고 있는 우리, 기술이 가져다주는 편리함으로 우리의 삶이 윤택해지기도 하지만, 그 기술에 의존도가 커지는 내 모습을 보게 된다.

나는 메타버스와 같은 가상세계의 등장은 새로운 가능성을 던져주기도 하지만, 또 다른 사회적 배제와 차별을 야기할 우려가 있다고 생각한다. 특히 자본주의 거대 시장에 의해서 만들어지는 가상세계는 분명 현실과 크게 다르지 않을 거라는 게 내 생각이다. 그렇기 때문에 기술의 발전, 미래를 생각할 때, 세상이 더 나아지기를 원한다면, 작금의 문제에 대한 해결이 우선 또는 동반되어야 한다.

그래서 강의 말미에 이야기되었던 것처럼 '사회적 약자에 대한 생각의 전환'이 현재 이 시대가 가지고 있는 문제의 해결 방법이라는 것에 동의한다.

3. '기술은 개발되는 것이 아니라, 선택되는 것 : 비영리 기관의 역할' - 최문정 교수(카이스트 과학기술정책대학원)

사적 영역과 공적 영역이 불명확해지고 있는 시대, 사적 영역에서 공적 영역으로 확장되고 있는 시대에서 '차별의 문제에 대해서 질문하고 이야기 해야 한다'는 이야기에 동의한다.

다른 분들의 발표에서도 이야기되었던 것처럼, 기술의 발전에 우리가 못 따라가는 것도 있고, 또 기술의 발전이 주는 차별에 대해서 우리가 관심을 가지지 못하는 것에 대해서 반성하게 된다.

빠르게 변화하는 시대, 그것에 맞게 많은 것을 받아들일 수밖에 없는 시대에 살고 있는 우리. 우리의 익숙해짐에서 우리가 제대로 인지하지 못하고 목소리를 내지 못하는 것이 있음은 분명하다.

4. '디지털 네트워크와 함께 하는 실천' -김경화(미디어 인류학자)

이번 강의 중 가장 어려운 내용이었다.
인터넷은 도구인가? 인터넷은 세상을 변화시키는 힘인가?라는 질문에 머리로는 'Yes'라고 답을 하고 있지만, 마음으로는 그렇지 않다는 것을 알고 있다.

디지털 이면의 것에 각성하자.

5. '혐오에 맞서기 위한 어렵지만 간단한 방법' -김학준(독립연구자)

혐오라는 말은 우리가 살아가는 세상에서 너무도 흔한 단어가 되었다. 우리의 삶에는 많은 혐오가 존재하고 있고, 나 역시 자유롭지 않다.

6. '정답이 보이지 않는 세계, 질문을 감당하는 자들의 연대' -김승섭 교수(서울대보건대학원)

세상의 아픔을 다 안고 살 수는 없다. 그러나 그렇다고 무관심할 수는 없다. 교수님의 강의를 듣고 난 후 나의 생각이다.

인간이 왜 인간인지, 왜 알아야 하고, 공감해야 하는지...

어제도 뉴스에는 가난으로 목숨을 잃은 사람들의 소식이 전해진다.

그래, 정신을 차려야 한다. 무엇이 잘못된 것인지, 아니 어떻게 해야 바로 가는 것인지를 깨어서 행동해야 한다.

 

Review of the 2022 Change On Conference "Awakening"

1. 'The era of great crises, a major transition for South Korea - Where do we stand, and where should we go?' - Professor Kim Nuri (Chung-Ang University)

We need to see the hidden side of social development. With the 'proud' facade attached to it, Professor Kim raised questions about the crisis of social collapse caused by the greatest inequality in the world and the stage of population decline that our country is heading towards."

2. 'Why Do We Rely on an Uncertain Future?' - Professor Kwak Jae-sik (Sungshin Cyber University)

In an era where vague expectations and anxieties about the future and technology coexist, we find ourselves living in a time where our lives become prosperous with the convenience brought by technology, but also increasingly dependent on it. I believe the emergence of virtual worlds like the metaverse presents new possibilities but also raises concerns about social exclusion and discrimination. Particularly, virtual worlds created by the capitalist market are likely to be not significantly different from reality, in my opinion. Therefore, when considering technological advancements and the future, if we desire a better world, addressing current issues should be prioritized or accompanied. Hence, I agree that a "shift in thinking regarding the socially vulnerable" as discussed towards the end of the lecture is a solution to the problems of this era.

3. 'Technology is not Developed, but Chosen: The Role of Non-Profit Organizations' - Professor Choi Moon-jung (KAIST Graduate School of Science and Technology Policy)

In an era where the boundaries between private and public domains are becoming blurred, and the expansion from the private to the public domain is taking place, I agree with the notion that we need to question and discuss the issue of discrimination. As discussed in other presentations, there are times when we cannot keep up with the advancement of technology, and we reflect on our lack of interest in the discrimination caused by technological progress. We live in a rapidly changing era where we have no choice but to accept many things. It is clear that there are things in our familiarity that we do not fully comprehend and cannot voice.

4. 'Practicing Together with the Digital Network' - Kim Kyung-hwa (Media Anthropologist)

This was the most challenging content in the lecture. Is the internet a tool? Is the internet a force that changes the world? While my mind answers 'Yes' to these questions, deep down, I know it's not that simple. Let's awaken ourselves to the aspects of the digital realm.

5. 'Difficult but Simple Ways to Confront Hatred' - Kim Hak-jun (Independent Researcher)

The word 'hatred' has become all too common in the world we live in. There is a lot of hatred present in our lives, and I myself am not free from it.

6. 'A Solidarity of Those Who Can Handle Questions in a World Without Clear Answers' - Professor Kim Seung-seop (Seoul National University Graduate School of Public Health)

We cannot bear the pain of the world on our shoulders. However, that doesn't mean we can be indifferent. This is my thought after listening to the professor's lecture. Why humans are human, why we need to know and empathize... Yesterday, the news also reported the deaths of people due to poverty.
